July Vacation: If It's Tuesday, It Must Be Khartum...

After a topsy-turvy week of strange schedules and too much anxiety, on Tuesday, our lives returned to something resembling normalcy, which made the long ride back up to the Ottaw Valley a perfect antidote to the marathon of turmoil and a pleasant jaunt indeed. Carter and Nathaniel were awestruck experiencing the cool view from their new car seats, and didn't stir until we were coming up on Tweed, where we stopped at the usual haunt, to the delight of the locals and those-just-passing-through...

Aside from a little highway work, there were no major delays and we rolled in just in time for dinner, and to be told the troubling news that Nanny had been admitted to the hospital. The reason? Almost an exact replay of what Nona had just gone through in Mississauga. Nanny would be hospitalized for a week while tests were done and new medications attempted. Despite her morning scare, she was in terrific spirits, since she knew the boys would be up for the entire week.

Managing to fit in a tour of the neighbourhood (where they had a chance encounter with a little girl driving an electric car--fat chance they'll ever forget that) and some frenetic romping about the yard to break in some new toys and old favorites, Carter and Nathaniel enjoyed their first of later-than-usual bedtimes as--even though it had only been a month since their last visit--there was much catching up to do...
