Home Invasion 2

When Nathaniel and I returned home from our jaunt to Surrey Place, we found the place overrun with the nutty antics of Carter and our neighbour Kyla, who were clearly in no mood for naps. While Nathaniel occupied himself with his favorite toy garage, Carter and Kyla cranked it up past 11 and I escaped for work while I could...

The Ears Have It...Again!?

Ugh--one week after Nathaniel's hearing test at Surrey, it was BACK to the same location this afternoon for a follow-up with Dr. Smitheringale, who performed the tube surgery on him almost a year ago. She was quite happy with his test results and could detect no problems, and alerted us that shortly, the tube implants would dissolve and start to drop out. We're booked back in six months so for the time being, Nathaniel won't have to worry about people poking and prodding in his little ears...

Make Mine Marvel!

Carter's interests are ping-ponging all over the place--remember when The Beatles ruled? And The Imagination Movers? Well, he still sings songs from both (The Beatles "Get Back" and The Movers' "Rock O Matic" were both belted out with much enthusiasm on the weekend), and it seems that even Superman and Darth Maul are slipping on the popularity scale lately. While Pops has long been a "DC" fan over Marvel, lately, Carter can't get enough of Spider-Man, Wolverine, and The Hulk--so Marvel is where it's at. I picked up a set of mini-Marvel statues for him last week, and this weekend, ol' Greenskin was the be-all, end-all. To think, I bought "The Hulk" shortly before he was born and it took all of three years for him to notice...

Ol' Greenskin

A year ago, Carter would tell everyone "Hulk's crying", in response to a comic book I showed him. These past few days, ol' Greenskin has been the be-all, end-all, knocking Superman and Darth to second and third place. He found clips of the new live-action films on YouTube and is now the proud of owner of more Hulks than his father ever owned...and it's a good thing I drew this character so many times in my notebook as a kid that I haven't forgotten how...

Mom And Pops' Big Day Out

Pops had read almost all of Edgar Rice Burrough's "Mars" adventures before he was 12, so when Disney released a long-awaited film adaptation of the first installment (the books were written in the 1920s, and a film version has been planned for more than 75 years!), it was high on his must-see list. But the film turned out to be a huge flop, so we had to rush out to theatre before it disappeared. The ever-reliable Karren came in for an afternoon to look after The Dynamic Duo while we took in a matinee at the posh AMC at Yonge/Dundas. I thought the movie was just great and full of some of the best special FX I've ever seen (I'm not sure why it's not a hit) and one day, it'll be fun to show it to the boys...

After that, it was across the street to The Eaton Centre for an appointment at the Apple "Genius Bar" to replace our damaged iPad 2. Alas, we weren't able to score a replacement free of charge, but we did get a new unit for a decent, less-than-full-value price. Of course, before we headed back home, we ponied up for a durable case tested by the U.S. military. If life with twin three-year olds teaches us anything, it's that any item that can be shattered can, and will...

Hearing Test

Another hearing test already? Nathaniel and I took the drive along College to Surrey Place for a follow-up hearing test with Jill, who's really very nice but Nathaniel hates Hates HATES having anything put in his ears (who doesn't?) which is the whole point of the test. Well, after much struggle, we got him to relax and he passed his test with flying colours, or audible ones, or something. I wish I could tell you it was all over, but we have yet ANOTHER test next week with Dr. Smitheringale, to see how the tubes are doing, one year later. We got back home just in time for baths and a round of silliness before bed...
