A Lesson In Tolerance...

As a new parent, it's overwhelming to consider the breadth of information I'm expected to communicate to my youngsters--esp. subjects of morality and tolerance, considering that while I fancy myself a card-carrying bleeding-heart liberal type (whose basic credo is that consenting adults should be allowed to do whatever the hell they want and it's nobody else's business, especially the government's), my cynicism and nihilistic world view borderline on pathological misanthropy...you know, the stuff of Russian literature and run-on stories about poor customer service...

While appreciation of varying races, colours, creeds, languages, and alternative lifestyles will be a given in our household, there's another great societal gulf that I feel must be acknowledged and addressed: Marvel, or DC? The answer is both, of course. While Stan Lee's creations are arguably "cooler", without the classic Golden Age characters there wouldn't be comic books. That's why Carter's sporting Spider-Man on his onesie, and Carter's wearing Superman's big red "s"...

  1. not wanting to throw a wrench into the whole existential debate, i think that you might want to consider that the choices may first rest with bob the builder and barney.

  2. Hmm...I think the answer might be to skip the letter "B" entirely...if Elmo and co. will cooperate. But then again, Wiggles begins with "W" doesn't it? Damn!
