Nonno and Nonna--Finally!

Carter and Nathaniel finally met their other grandparents today -- otherwise known as "Nonno" and "Nonna" in Italian, my mom and dad. Since my dad's been quite ill for most of the past year, battling cancer first in one of his kidneys, now in his lungs, we packed the boys up in their car seats and made the trek to Mississauga so that Dad could finally see the boys in person.

Mom has made brief visits, first at Mount Sinai just after they were born and then at home after they were released from the NICU at St. Mike's, but Dad has only ever seen photos and has been anxiously awaiting the day he could hold them in his arms.

So as the boys have become more accustomed to the world, Robert and I decided that New Years Day (good weather, light traffic) would be ideal for a road trip. Carter and Nathaniel were, as usual, quiet and calm in the car, and equally as angelic for their visit. It was all worth it to see Dad's tears of joy as he cuddled his grandsons for the first time... but certainly not the last! As of Friday, January 2, Dad has finished his chemotherapy and, God willing, the cancer will be controlled and Carter and Nathaniel can get to know their Italian side.
